It is not fair that the government is giving out $8000 rebates for first time buyers while not giving one cent to people who have owned their homes for 10, 20 or 30 or more years. It is all well and good to try to help young people get started in the housing market but it is atrocious that those folk who have paid high rates of taxes throughout the years they have owned their homes.
As the paper industry declined/s in Maine there is a burden to try to keep these industrys afloat,so many jobs won't be eliminated in the local realm which impact the economy statewide. In my town, the shutdown of the local paper ill happened and we were lucky that things worked out that new owners were found and the industry is still running. In spite of the fact that half the jobs traditional to the company were eliminated-some are better than none. In order to keep this business going Tax Increment Financing was applied-a reduction in the tax bill for the company. The downside to this is that homeowners have had to bear the burden of the loss taxes from the company and a doubling of taxes for the individual homeowner. This doubling of taxes was done without any inspection of the individuals' propertys
Now is a good time to initiate a homeowners' tax rebate or a Taxpayers' TIF. Let's level the playing field.
