Mario Andretti thinks he is fast but....
Knowing that Mario Andretti was going to be in Ellsworth for the anniversary of a Firestone Tire dealer's 25th anniversary, I decided to go get autographs for myself and my ex girlfriends son. Having heard that many sports figures are contracted to sign for a specific time frame or certain number of signings, I decided to go early to avoid not getting one signed.
The signing was scheduled for 10 am and I arrived at 7 on this rainy, dreary day. The staff setting up the giveaway prizes and the signing tent were very cordial and they teased me a bit about being so early. Mario didnt arrive until 11:15. After photo taking, Mario finally made his way to the tent.
It became obvious he had heardof my early arrival and he light heartedly made joke of it. He said I realize you have been here for several hours but i have bad news. Today we arent taking first comefirst served rather we aregoing by alphabetical order...What is your name? Without hesitation I said...Aardvark....Aaron Aardvark. He grinned that wide smile and said you are some fast on your feet. I got a couple pictures of Mario and went on my way with acouple autographed pictures. I would say he wont soon forget me.
